Humberto Lay Sun(JP-wb) — The National Executive Committee of Peruvian political party ‘Restauración Nacional’ announced on Monday the expulsion of its leader, evangelical pastor Humberto Lay Sun. They accuse him of “constantly fraternizing and disloyalty”.

In a press conference, the party’s Secretary General Marcos Morón said this decision had already been made at a party meeting held on February 11th.

Together with Lay Sun, Edwin Maeshiro Nomura, Iván Becerra and Marco Antonio Valcárcel were also shown the door.

Morón declared that everything Humberto Lay says from now on will his personal view and can in no way be related to the official political position and opinion of the party.

Pastor Lay was once a member of Peru’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission that investigated abuses by the Shining Path, Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, and the Military of Peru during the 1980s and 1990s. He has got a top position among the Christian leaders and pastors in Peru.

He ran unsuccessfully for president in the 2006 elections on the National Restoration ticket, obtaining 4.38% of the valid votes. He also ran for Mayor of Lima in November 2006, basically with the same result.
